Sekhukhune United, known as ‘Babina Noko’, created chances from long range, but their efforts failed to trouble the scoreboard.

Mokibelo Ramabu gives City the lead

The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Mokibelo Ramabu found the back of the net after being set up by Banele Mnguni, giving City a 1-0 lead.

Sekhukhune pushed for an equaliser before halftime, with Ellis Rammala attempting a long-range strike, but goalkeeper Brian Bwire produced a fine save to deny him.

The second half saw continued pressure from Sekhukhune, who made several substitutions in an effort to turn the game around.

However, Polokwane City’s defence remained resolute.

The match grew increasingly physical, with multiple fouls, yellow cards and stoppages.

City had opportunities to extend their lead but could not convert their chances.

City hold firm under Sekhukhune pressure

In the closing stages, Sekhukhune threw everything forward, earning corners and free kicks, but City held firm under pressure to secure the win.

The victory moves Polokwane City up to seventh place on the Betway Premiership log, while Sekhukhune United remains in fifth position.

City were set to face TS Galaxy away on Tuesday, while Sekhukhune will host Magesi at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on April 11.
