The African National Congress (ANC)’s elective conference in Limpopo will proceed this weekend after the High Court dismissed an urgent application to interdict the gathering.
A disgruntled branch member had approached the courts to stop the conference from sitting due to concerns about the legitimacy of a digital device used to verify delegates.
Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba is tipped to be elected as the party’s provincial chairperson at the conference.
Acting Judge Tshifhiwa Tshivhase delivered the judgment on Friday morning.
“As such, this court came to the conclusion that there is no case made out by the applicant on urgency in terms of Rule 612. The application is struck off for the lack of urgency. Each party will pay its own cost.”
Meanwhile, the party in the Eastern Cape is also caught up in a legal battle, where its provincial elective conference this weekend has been interdicted.
