Gauteng cop Nkosi refuses to detail relationship with mysterious figure Motsumi

Gauteng organised crime officer Fannie Nkosi has refused to describe the nature of his relationship with mysterious figure Steve Motsumi, who has been linked to corrupt individuals.

Nkosi has been testifying before the Madlanga Commission after sharing confidential information with Motsumi.

While Motsumi has not been implicated in any large-scale corruption, several witnesses at the commission have mentioned his name as someone close to suspected crime bosses and the higher-ups in the country’s law enforcement sector.

Motsumi has been highlighted by some witnesses at the commission as being close to Gauteng’s taxi bosses and having interests in mining and private security.

When KwaZulu-Natal’s Hawks head, Lesetja Senona, testified at the Madlanga Commission, he described Motsumi as a very dangerous man.

WhatsApp chats from Nkosi show he regularly sent Motsumi confidential police information.

They ranged from audit reports of tenders, media queries about kidnappings for extortion and ongoing police investigations.

Nkosi said he shared these documents with Motsumi because he has an interest in police affairs.

“One of the things that Mr Motsumi is always concerned about is when police are implicated in wrongdoing, so he’s interest is there. He doesn’t want when police are implicated in wrongdoing because according to him, he has the best interest in South Africa and its inheritance. So, when a police official is mentioned in wrongdoing, he gets worried – we discuss it sometimes,” he explained on Tuesday.

However, Nkosi’s explanation did not sit well with commissioners, who berated him for sharing confidential information with a civilian.
