Central Gauteng athletics to strengthen local partnerships and infrastructure | Germiston City News

The newly appointed leadership of Central Gauteng Athletics has outlined a bold vision focused on collaboration, transparency, and long-term sustainability as it charts a new path.

CGA leadership emphasised that partnerships will be central to its strategy going forward.

Plans are underway to strengthen relationships with schools, municipalities, corporate partners and athletics institutions to expand development pathways, improve infrastructure support, and create more opportunities for athletes.

Ensuring open and effective communication with members is also a key priority.

The leadership is committed to consistent, clear and accessible updates, improved governance reporting, and the creation of platforms that allow clubs and stakeholders to engage meaningfully with CGA.

Efforts are also being made to modernise communication platforms to improve accessibility and information sharing.

The leadership acknowledged several challenges ahead, including rebuilding unity within the federation, strengthening governance culture, managing financial pressures, and ensuring organisational stability.

However, these challenges are seen as an opportunity to reset and drive institutional improvement.

“While CGA is currently in a stable financial position, the focus will be on strengthening this foundation through diversified funding strategies and improved operational efficiency,” said CGA president Karabo Mabilo in a recent interview.

Leadership noted that long-term sustainability will depend on discipline, strategic planning and responsible financial management.

Among the most exciting opportunities is the chance to rebuild and reposition CGA as a leading athletics federation in the country.

“This includes strengthening athlete development programmes, promoting women and youth leadership, and driving meaningful transformation within the organisation,” said Mabilo.

Mabilo expressed that their motivation stems from the strong support they have received from the board, staff, clubs, and stakeholders.

“Athletics instils discipline, excellence and opportunity. We want to build an organisation that reflects these values and serves its members effectively,” she said.

“At the end of the term, I want to leave behind a federation that is ethical, financially sound, inclusive and respected.”

“The vision is to build a modern, well-governed organisation where systems function effectively, development pathways thrive, and leadership transitions are seamless.

CGA members and supporters were thanked for their continued trust, resilience and commitment to the sport.

“This is a collective journey. Together, we will build a federation rooted in integrity, unity and excellence, one that puts athletes first and uplifts the entire athletics community in Central Gauteng,” said Mabilo.
