Brothers jailed for raping and assaulting 16-year-old girl in Limpopo

Two brothers have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms after being found guilty of raping and assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Limpopo.

The Tzaneen Regional Court convicted and sentenced the pair on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following an investigation by police in the province.

In a statement, Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, welcomed the conviction and sentencing of the two accused men, who received 15 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

According to police, the case came to light on September 12, 2022, at about 7am when the victim visited a Social Development office in Polokwane to seek advice and assistance.

During interviews, a social worker realised the teenager had allegedly been raped and assaulted several times by her siblings during 2020 and again on September 7, 2022.

The matter was reported to a local police station and later transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

Police said the investigating officer acted swiftly and arrested the suspects. The two appeared several times in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court before the case was later transferred to the regional court.

On Tuesday, the Tzaneen Regional Court found both accused – brothers aged 19 and 25 – guilty.

They were sentenced as follows:
