Bert Collins Boxing Club fighters fall short at Gauteng Development Tournament | Springs Advertiser

The Bert Collins Boxing Club participated in a Gauteng Development Tournament, which was hosted by Alberton Boxing Club on March 7. Two of the club’s boxers entered the ring, where they suffered devastating losses against their opponents.

Eugene Scholtz, who came from a victory in a tournament last week, faced Anathi Khonzani from Eden Park, where he lost on a 4/1 points decision in a very intense bout. Head coach Jeanette Dyzel told the Springs Advertiser that Scholtz needs to work on his aggressiveness in the ring.

Blessing Taguma went head-to-head against the current SA champion, Jonathan Swart from Transnet, where he dominated the first round, but in the second round, Taguma was caught with a body blow, which stopped him in his tracks.

Dyzel shared that Taguma did very well, but unfortunately lost on a Ref stop Contest.

“I am satisfied with both my boxers’ performance, and we need to work on their mistakes and will correct them,” concluded the head coach.

The club will host its second tournament at its clubhouse on April 11.

In last week’s publication, we reported on the boxing tournament at Bert Collins Boxing Club. A caption incorrectly stated that Juan Viljoen defeated Michael Dicks. The correct result is that Michael Dicks won his bout against Juan Viljoen. We apologise for any confusion caused by this error.
