A seaside holiday turned tragic when a Gauteng man collapsed and died shortly after leaving the water at Westbrook Beach in Tongaat on Monday morning.
According to a statement from Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), it is alleged the 50-year-old man had a heart attack. However this could not be immediately confirmed.Â
“Members of Rusa were dispatched after a beachgoer reported a possible drowning. Reaction officers proceeded to the scene while the Rusa Robinson R44 Helicopter had been pre-flighted in the event that an aerial response would be required.
“On arrival, reaction officers found paramedics from multiple private ambulance services conducting CPR on an unresponsive male on the shoreline. It was established that the man was from Krugersdorp in the West Rand and was holidaying in KZN with his family… Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, the man was declared deceased on scene.”Â
