Sethabile shines in Gauteng women’s football tournament | Alberton Record

Sethabile Kamwande (17), a matric learner from Alberton High School, has been growing from strength to strength in SA women’s football.

In December 2025, she played for the Gauteng Women’s Soccer Tournament (GWST) and led her team, Mamelodi Sundowns, to consecutive championships.

Kamwande’s standout performance earned her player of the match twice, and she also won soccer boots, which she donated to underprivileged children.

During the same month, Kamwande travelled to Harare, Zimbabwe, with Mamelodi Sundowns to participate in the Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT).

The team emerged as champions, and Kamwande was named one of the tournament’s top 11 players.

In January, Kamwande received a call-up from the U20 South African women’s national team to play in the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Despite a tough campaign, Kamwande showed her skills on the international stage.

Kamwande expressed gratitude to her support system, including her school principal, teachers at Alberton High and her mom and family, for their unwavering support.

“I appreciate each and every one of you. My teachers who help me at school are so important. My mom and my family make me who I am,” said Sethabile.
