The Limpopo Gambling Board has formally backed the SiGMA Africa 2026 summit, set to take place in Cape Town from March 3 to 5, 2026, positioning the provincial regulator within a continental forum focused on regulated gaming and technology.
SiGMA Africa is regarded as one of the largest gaming and technology summit-style events on the continent, bringing together regulators, operators, policymakers, and technology innovators. The event provides a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, align strategies, and form partnerships within the gaming ecosystem.
The Board linked its support for the summit to its statutory mandate, particularly its focus on responsible, ethical, and forward-looking gaming activities. In a statement, the Limpopo Gambling Board said that engagement in platforms such as SiGMA Africa would enhance collaboration and enable the sharing of best practices among sectors involved in regulating the gaming industry.
“The participation of the Limpopo Gambling Board through SiGMA Africa allows for constructive discussion around Regulatory compliance, Consumer Protection (safeguards), and new risks imposed on businesses by Technology,” the Limpopo Gambling Board stated.
According to the Board, the summit will provide an opportunity to advance initiatives related to governance, operational standards, and ethical behavior. The regultor has emphasized that technological developments are reshaping the sector, requiring regulators to reassess oversight mechanisms while maintaining consumer protections.
It has identified player protection, harm reduction, and the development of regulatory measures as priorities, particularly as industry growth accelerates. The Board has indicated that participation in the summit will support discussions on regulatory frameworks, risk management strategies, and innovative approaches to consumer protection.
The agency has called for collaboration among operators, technology suppliers, and regulatory agencies, noting that technological advances present both new opportunities and regulatory challenges. SiGMA Africa, the Board said, offers a venue for such outreach and policy dialogue.
The 2026 gathering is expected to attract participants from across Africa and other regions, creating a setting for strategic discussions about the future direction of gaming markets. The Board’s participation comes under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Mokgase Gregory Makoko.
