The Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Track and Field League 2 held at the Germiston Stadium delivered elite performances on February 7.
Also delivered were fast times and a clear statement that the season is well underway.
A standout moment came in the senior men’s 100m heat 4, where Udeme Okon opened his season by storming to victory with a sensational time of 10.06.

He was followed by David Kazadi of the FFA in 10.84, while Levarno Rankoe of the Nories rounded up the podium in 11.50.
The sprint action continued in the senior women’s 200m, where the University of Johannesburg asserted dominance, with Shirley Nekhubui claiming a win in an impressive 23.78, followed by teammate Joviale Mbisha in 24.12. Completing the University of Johannesburg clean sweep was Precious Molepo in 24.25.

The senior men’s 200m showcased speed and depth, with the University of Johannesburg athletes again rising to the occasion.
Moss Mvuyo powered to victory in 20.29, while Ditiro Mekhise finished second in 20.95. TJ Van De Walt, also representing the University of Johannesburg, clocked 20.96 to finish third.
A world-class highlight, which produced the world lead and Commonwealth Games qualifier, came in the senior men’s 400m hurdles.

Sabelo Dhlamini delivered an international standard performance, stopping the clock at 49.66. Oratilwe Shale followed with 52.92, while Nedbank athlete Nthuthuko Vundla secured third in 54.70.
CGA PR and communications co-ordinator Nongcebo Siziba said the field events also delivered strong performances, highlighting the depth of emerging talent within CGA, especially in the girls’ U16 high jump, with Kayla Hopely of the MVAC winning with a jump of 1.66m.
“Second went to IHT’s Leah Futter, clearing 1.60m, while Eldoryn Jacobs of Helpmekaar secured third with 1.60m,” said Siziba.
