The Democratic Alliance says it’s expecting more broken promises from premier Panyaza Lesufi’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) tonight.
The DA’s Gauteng leader, Solly Msimanga says they’re expecting more spinning. “Every year he introduces something new that never gets to be dealt with… Last year, he spoke about the 13 priorities. I can give you now fact that none of those things that he said are going to be delivered… actually materialised.”
Msimanga says he expects Lesufi to say more on infrastructure. “While we have been saying to him, he can speak until he’s blue in the face. I can tell you right now none of the municipalities will be able to fund the infrastructure backlog that each of these municipalities are sitting with. Johannesburg on its own needs about R200-billion just to address the backlog, not even building infrastructure. Tshwane’s sitting at about R180-billion…
“Therefore there needs to be an infrastructure master plan that province is coordinating.
And ensure that we are able to get enough money to be able to drive these things. That’s the first thing.
“The second thing, you can’t expect the same people that have broken the system to be responsible for fixing the system. He’s playing musical chairs with administrators that have been investigated, administrators that the SIU has actually got cases against… Now you tell me if there’s anyway of seriousness in dealing with the crises that are there.”
CapeTalk and 702’s Mandy Wiener says she will be unpacking Lesufi’s speech on her show tomorrow. To listen to her full discussion with Msimanga, click the link below:
