Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the Track and Field League 3 Meeting on February 14 at Germiston Stadium, delivering a thrilling day of competition across disciplines.

Athletes from the province, sister provinces, and southern African countries graced the event to showcase their talent, determination, and competitive spirit. Adding to the excitement was the element of international and inter-provincial competitiveness.

The meeting was a key part of CGA’s commitment to athlete development, providing a competitive platform for emerging youth athletes and seasoned seniors.

Junior Noah of Warriors of West secured first place in the men’s U18 3 000m steeplechase in 06:22.13, followed by Jordan Lamprecht of Hollywood in second with 06:52.37, and Samukelo Msibi of Benoni Northerns, who finished third in 06:54.44.

The province’s sprinting talent had flourished in recent seasons. In the girls’ U20 100m, Brakpan’s Jessica Botha sprinted to victory in 11.65, showcasing her speed and dominance on the track.

Hannah Hope Vermaark of Tuks followed in second place, clocking 12.05, while Kayla Vorster of 32Gi was third in 12.19.

The men’s U18 javelin was a highlight in the field events, in which Helpmekaar athletes dominated with a clean sweep of the podium.

Barnard Scott led the charge from the first throw to secure the winning spot with a throw of 55.74m, followed by teammate Alexander Turner in second place, throwing 49.82m, while Liam Venter secured third place with a distance of 43.48m.

The senior men’s 5 000m brought the day to an electrifying close, with a tactical and hard-fought battle unfolding lap after lap.

Siyabonga Xowana of AGN timed his move to perfection, breaking away in the final stages to claim victory in 14:22.83. Zenzile Pheko of Boxer showed great determination to secure second place, clocking 14:33.13, while Sibusiso Msibi of U rounded off the podium, clocking 14:38.44.

CGA PR and communications coordinator Nongcebo Siziba said these performances highlighted the high level of competition and depth of talent in the province and beyond our country’s borders, with athletes delivering impressive times and distances across all featured disciplines.
