A Toyota Hilux GD-6 reported stolen in Gauteng was intercepted on the N4 near Alkmaar on Monday afternoon, after members of the SAPS White River Flying Squad spotted the vehicle travelling towards Nelspruit.
According to the SA Police Service in Mpumalanga, police received information earlier on Monday about the theft of the bakkie in Kameeldrift, Gauteng.
While conducting patrols along the busy N4 corridor at about 3 pm, officers identified a vehicle matching the description of the stolen Toyota Hilux. The vehicle was stopped and positively identified as the one reported stolen earlier that day.
Police said the recovered Toyota Hilux GD-6 had been fitted with false registration plates. Further inspection revealed that certain interior components had been removed, possibly in preparation for the removal of a tracking device.
An adult male suspect, aged 26 and a Mozambican national, was arrested on a charge of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
The vehicle was taken to the Vehicle Identification Section for safekeeping and further forensic investigation.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
Acting provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has commended police officers for their swift action. He added that police across the province would continue to intensify patrols along major routes to combat vehicle-related crime.
