Severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of the North West, the Free State and the Northern Cape which may lead to localised damage, the South African Weather Service(SAWS) warned, while destructive coastal winds are expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas.
Thunder and rain is expected in eight provinces, but the Western Cape will experience fine, hot to very hot conditions.
Impact-based warnings
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms are expected in the central and eastern parts of the North West, central and western parts of the Free State, and the north-eastern parts of Northern Cape. These storms may cause localised damage to infrastructure, property, vehicles and livestock.
Yellow Level 1 warning: Damaging coastal winds are expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas, making navigation at sea difficult.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low. Level 9 is medium.
