Communities in the Free State urged to help schools prepare for 2026 academic year – Bloemfontein Courant

Communities are encouraged to play their part in helping the Free State Education Department prepare for the 2026 academic year.

According to the department, the province has experienced heavy rainfall since schools closed in December 2025, which may have impacted the school environment. Therefore, communities, school boards, parents and stakeholders are being called upon to lend a helping hand when it comes to mowing overgrown grass and pruning trees. Classrooms and vegetable gardens also need to be cleaned up.

“Let us take responsibility for our schools and make 2026 a year of dedication, excellence and shared responsibility,” the department said.

The 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results will be announced on January 12, 2026, followed by the annual provincial Grade 12 Well Done Function on January 16, 2026.

More than 700 people are expected to attend the ceremony. Attendees include top-performing students, principals, parents, members of the Executive Council (MECs), members of the provincial legislatures (MPLs), members of parliament (MPs), provincial SGB councilors, teachers’ unions, collaboration and business partners, senior government officials and members of the media.
