10 dead, 30 injured in crash in Free State | The citizen

The bus was transporting workers to Bloemfontein when it collided with a truck.

The N8 between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo turned into a bloodbath on Saturday morning when a collision between a bus and a truck left several people dead and dozens injured.

Free State Road Incident Management System chairman Sipho Towa said the bus was transporting workers to Bloemfontein when it collided with a truck near the RRR farm area.

“Ten fatalities were confirmed at the scene, seven men and three women, all adults. Six seriously injured people are in hospital and 24 others suffered minor to moderate injuries.”

“They were transported to Braam Fischer Busamed Hospital, Pelonomi Trauma Hospital in Bloemfontein and Botshabelo Hospital in Botshabelo.”

Towa said rainy weather may have contributed to the severity of the crash.

Law enforcement officers and investigators are on scene and lanes towards Bloemfontein are currently closed.

“We advise motorists to use alternative routes and drive carefully,” he added.
