The University of the Free State (UFS) has adjusted its 2025 academic calendar to ensure the completion of the academic year.
This follows two weeks of disruption caused by student protests.
The unrest was caused by university policy that prevents students with outstanding tuition fees from registering for the 2026 academic year.
The end-of-year exams, which were originally scheduled to begin on November 3, have been postponed to the 10th.
An exception has been made for students from the faculty of health sciences. They stick to the original schedule, so that they can graduate in December and start their internship in January.
In a statement, the university confirmed that the QwaQwa campus will reopen on Monday after students were evicted from housing following the torching of a campus building during the protests.
