Closure of UFS campus | Students angry about new registration system

BLOEMFONTEIN – Classes at the Free State University have been suspended and students have been given 24 hours to leave.

It follows violent protests at the three campuses in Bloemfontein and QwaQwa.

A decision to stop provisional registration next year led to unrest.

It would mean that students with outstanding debts would not be able to register.

Students say this will impact poor and working class people.

The university says the shift comes after years of growing student debt, which is now approaching a billion rand.
