KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape Youth Choir, for which auditions are now open, will break new ground as the province’s first recognised youth ensemble, providing opportunities for young singers and supporting schools without choirs.
This inaugural youth choir is a new initiative by the Northern Cape Symphony Orchestra, aiming to shape the province’s musical landscape by creating fresh platforms for musicians. It will also provide a space where young voices can unite, develop and perform together in harmony.
Male and female singers aged 15 to 25 years are invited to audition for the Northern Cape Youth Choir. Singers from across the province are welcome, provided they can attend weekly rehearsals in Kimberley. The choir will accommodate 50 to 60 members.
Nathan Carlo, conductor of the choir and founder-member of the Northern Cape Symphony Orchestra, said no previous experience was required, although it would be advantageous.

“It is a great honour to be part of this historic moment in the history of choral music in the province,” he said.
Choir to commence in January
The choir will officially commence in January, with the remainder of 2025 allocated to auditions. The Northern Cape Youth Choir will perform at numerous local events in 2026, with the official launch scheduled for April. A choir tour to the Free State is also planned for next year.
“This is your chance to be part of history and to help build something truly special for the next generation of Northern Cape musicians. Let your voice be heard. Let your story be sung,” Carlo said.
- For the first phase of auditions, interested young people must record a short video of themselves singing “Happy Birthday”.
- Videos should be sent via WhatsApp to 076 353 7793 on or before Friday, 21 November.
- Further information about the choir can be obtained by sending a WhatsApp message to the same number.
- Successful candidates will be invited to attend an in-person audition.
