The FIFA World Cup qualifying match of 2026 between Bafana Bafana and Nigeria will continue in Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein as originally planned, after a successful Pitch inspection that illuminated recent worries.
The collision with high deployment was set on September 9 at 6 pm and was assessed because of doubts about the readiness of the play surface after a hard winter. However, those fears can now be rested.
In a joint explanation aimed at Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao, FIFA and CAF confirmed approval of the location, with reference to “encouraging progress observed on the field” as the decisive factor.
“Given the encouraging progress that has been observed on the field, both organizations have agreed that the competitions will continue as originally planned in the Free State Stadium,” said the statement.
Bafana Bafana is currently in the camp in Johannesburg and sharpen their focus for a crucial double header. First, Lesotho is on 5 September, followed by the long -awaited collision with the Super Eagles from Nigeria.
With the green light officially awarded, all eyes now turn to Bloemfontein – a city rich in football heritage – where the field and the players will share the attention in a match that could define the World Cup trip of South Africa.
