Free State Premier to set up NUM Strategic Planning Review on important economic sectors National Union of Mine Workers

Welcome, Free State – [15 May 2025] -The National Union of Minworkers (NUM) Free State Region will hold its crucial strategic planning review this Friday and Saturday 16-17 May 2025 at the Kingdom Academy in Welcome. An important highlight of this crucial meeting will be an address of the prime minister of the Free State Province, honorable modele Letsoha-Mathae.

Prime Minister Letsoha-Mathae is planned to address the Num Free State leadership and important stakeholders about critical matters that influence the mining, energy, construction and metal industry in the province. Her address, expected before Friday 16 May, is expected to dive in essential issues such as: the current state and future prospects of the mining of the free state.

Extensive assessment of the current challenges: thorough analysis of the obstacles that influence miners and employees in related sectors, including safety protocols, job security, wage negotiations and general working conditions.

Setting strategic goals for the future: defining clear, measurable, feasible, relevant and time-bound (smart) objectives for the Num Free State region in the short, average and long term.

Improving membership and growth: developing innovative strategies to increase the participation of members, improve recruitment efforts and strengthen communication channels within the trade union.

Strengthening stakeholder relationships: building and strengthening relationships with mining companies, energy suppliers, construction companies, metalworking companies, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to effectively promote the interests of NUM members.

Proactive advocacy: identifying critical policy areas that require attention and formulate robust interest strategies to influence the legislative and regulatory frameworks that are relevant to the industries represented.

Investing in skills development and training: exploring and promoting opportunities to improve the skills, adaptability and long -term employability of employees in these evolving landscapes in the industry.
