Tuesday brings rain, big waves, cold and snow as cold front sweeps across South Africa

Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected in places over the interior of the Namakwa district (Northern Cape) and Witzenberg Municipality of the Western Cape, and light snowfall is expected on Tuesday over the northern high lying areas of the Eastern Cape according to the SA Weather Service.

Warnings from the SA Weather Service for Tuesday:

A. level 1 warning for damaging waves leading to localised disruption of beachfront activities between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Tuesday morning, while reaching 5.5m south of Saldanha Bay.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the western half of the North West, the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal as well as the Nyandeni Local Municipality of the Eastern Cape.

1. GAUTENG
Fine and cool with morning frost in places in the south.

2. MPUMALANGA
Fine and cool, but warm in places in the Lowveld.

3. LIMPOPO
Fine and cool to warm.

4. NORTH-WEST
Fine, windy and cool, becoming partly cloudy in the west.

5. FREE STATE
Fine, windy and cool, becoming partly cloudy in the west.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Cloudy in the extreme west with scattered showers, otherwise partly cloudy windy and cold to cool with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the east. It will be very cold in places in the south-west. The wind along coast will be light to moderate south-westerly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cold with isolated showers over the eastern interior, otherwise scattered to widespread. It will be very cold over the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh west to north-westerly becoming south-westerly from the afternoon.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Cloudy and cool with scattered afternoon showers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Fine and cool, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers south of the escarpment in the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Fine and warm but cool in places in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly becoming strong in places north of Durban. It will become light southerly to south-westerly south of Durban in the afternoon.
