Level 3 warning issued for severe thunderstorms on Thursday and more snow possible

Very cold conditions with light snowfalls are expected in places over the northern high-lying areas until Friday, according to the SA Weather Service.

From Friday it should be partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain in the east. A cold front will make landfall in the Western Cape on Saturday where isolated to scattered showers and rain are expected along west coast and adjacent interior.

A. level 3 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in travelling disruptions, localized flooding, large amounts of small hail and wind damage in parts of Limpopo, most of Mpumalanga Highveld and central and northern Gauteng.

1. GAUTENG
Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers.

2. MPUMALANGA
Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the east.

3. LIMPOPO
Cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the west.

4. NORTH-WEST
Partly cloudy and cold with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except in the west.

5. FREE STATE
Partly cloudy and cold with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except in the south-west.

6. NORTHERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cold to cool.
The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

7. WESTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cold to cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate westerly to north-westerly, becoming light to moderate south-westerly in the afternoon, but moderate to fresh along the south coast.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cool but cold over the high ground. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE
Partly cloudy and cold, but cool along the coast with light morning rain can in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, but light in the afternoon.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL
Cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and rain but scattered in the north-west and north-east. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the south by the evening, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong in the extreme north from the afternoon.
