EXCLUSIVE | Alleged illegal miner speaks of life inside Barberton mine

BARBERTON – A further two zama-zamas have surfaced from the Sheba Mine in Barberton, Mpumalanga.

An alleged illegal miner, speaking to eNCA says he was under the mine for about two months.

A local, he says, he had come to the area after losing his job at a petrol station.

He had been told that he could make money underground and there was ‘a lot to take’.

Seeking a way to make ends meet, he went underground and started mining.

The miner says he got injured and had been feeling a tightness in his chest, which was motivation for him to come to the surface, where he was arrested.

He was taken to a nearby hospital.
