10 people die in R547 and N12 crashes | Witbank News

Motorists are urged to drive with caution after 10 people died in two separate accidents on the R547 and the N12 this morning.

According to Moeti Mmusi from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the first accident occurred on the R547 between Kinross and Ga-Nala, when a sedan allegedly lost control and overturned on the side of the road. Four men, including the driver, died, while two passengers were transported to a nearby hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

In another crash that occurred on the N12 between Delmas and eMalahleni, Mmusi said six people lost their lives abruptly when an articulated truck crashed into their truck they allegedly used as transportation to work.

“Six passengers were seriously injured while 11 escaped with slight injuries,” Mmusi said, adding that those injured were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The investigation into both crashes is already underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, continued to urge motorists to be highly alert as people continue to lose their lives in collisions.

“It is essential that all road users play their part by being alert while driving. They must also comply with the rules. More than 80 percent of collisions on the road are caused by human behaviour, and regrettably, people’s recklessness claims innocent people’s lives,” Macie said.
