This forecast covers: Mon 21 Jul – Wed 23 Jul
Light snowfall is possible for parts of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho between Monday and Wednesday next week.
There is also light snowfall indicated for the Western Cape peaks on Thursday but nothing down low, and light snowfall is now indicated for Saturday for the east of Lesotho.
The snow next week is no longer looking like it will be low-level and will mainly be on the peaks.
Some of the Western Cape peaks are on the radar for light snowfall, including around Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson, Ceres, the Koue Bokkeveld, the Cederberg and De Doorns.
In the Northern Cape the high ground around Noupoort and De Aar are still indicated for possible snowfall.
In the Eastern Cape, snow is again indicated for the high ground around Nieu-Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet, Middelburg, Molteno, Dordrecht, Lady Grey, Rhodes and the high passes in that area such as Barkly Pass and Naude’s Nek Pass.
Light snowfall or flurries are possible in parts of the Free State as per the map, and this includes Bloemfontein at this stage.
Low-level snow is no longer indicated in KwaZulu-Natal, and any snow is currently only likely on the peaks of the Drakensberg and Maluti mountains.
If you are planning to travel through areas that may get snow it is worth being prepared by reading our article on safe winter travel.
Since this is very much an advance forecast we have not indicated the snow depth at this stage since it will change.
The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast. Snow indicated may reduce or vanish completely in some areas, or the dates and times may change.
