Minister suspend EPWP funds on Matjhabeng

Johannesburg – Minister of Public Works, Dean Macpherson, has suspended extensive financing of the Public Works Program to Matjhabeng The local municipality awaiting a full investigation.

This follows reports that politically connected municipal employees receive blown salaries through the EPWP.

Some employees reportedly received salaries as high as R30,000 a month, while others are paid so few R1,500.

Macpherson says that the EPWP was established to offer skills-based work opportunities in the short term, not to serve as an AA vehicle for political patronage.
