While schools reopen, there is a cold and wet week for most parts of SA, with widespread rain, insulated showers and the possibility of light snowfall forecast in different regions.
This Monday to Tuesday, isolated to scattered opportunities for rain and showers are expected over most parts of the North Cape in the Eastern Cape, intensifying to a 60% chance of rain and showers across the eastern half of the eastern cape.
SA-weather service predictor Lehlogonolo Thobela said that there was also a possibility to bring snow over the high-lying areas of Lesotho in the Drakensberg Mountains over the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

“On Tuesday, isolated showers and rain are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape in the Eastern Cape, the southern parts of the Free State as well as Kwazulu-Natal and the Lowveld of Mpumalanga.
“However, a 60% chance of rain and showers are expected on the eastern half of the eastern cape in the coastal areas of Kwazulu-Natal later in the afternoon, with the possibility of disturbing rain along the east coast of Kwazulu-Natal,” said Thobela.
On Wednesday, it is expected that partly cloudy conditions with cool temperatures are expected to dominate the central parts in the eastern parts of the country, with isolated showers and rain that are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State and the southern areas of the northwest.
The partially cloudy circumstances are expected to dominate on Thursday over most parts of the country, with cold to cool conditions, but warm in the extreme northern parts that cover areas across the northern parts of Limpopo in the Mpumalanga Lowveld.
There will be a 30% chance of rain and showers for the northwest, the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and in Kwazulu-Natal.
Thobela said on Friday that isolated showers and rain would bring over most parts of the southwestern areas as a cold front, south of the country, with a 30% chance of showing and rain over the western Cape and the southern parts of the free state.
Cold temperatures were expected about the slope of Lesotho in the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.
Saturday and Sunday
Very cold conditions are expected on Saturday About the southwestern interior with windy conditions and a 30% chance on showers and rain along the south coast.
Possible light snow is predicted for the eastern half of the western cape in the extreme southwestern parts of the Eastern Cape, with windy conditions expected along the coast to the central interior, with regard to areas around the Northern Cape in the Free State and the western parts of the northwest.
“On Sundays, cold temperatures will last, especially on the eastern half of the eastern cape, resulting in light snow over the Drakensberg Mountains that lead to the Lesotho Mountains, with a chance of 30% on shower and rain that is expected in the afternoon.
Thobela said that the circumstances were expected during most parts of the eastern half of the eastern Cape with a 30% chance on showers and rain over most parts of the western areas of Kwazulu-Natal to the slope of Mpumalanga.
