The safety problems are reinforced in Bloemfontein after the alleged kidnapping of the 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi. Baukudi was reportedly abducted by two men who spend a Toyota Hilux Bakkie who claims to be police officers.

Spokesperson for the Free State Police Thabo Covane says that the driver of Baukudi, Daniel Matebatso, explained that after he had taken him from Martie du Plessis High School, a cup of two occupants brought to a stop. The driver told him that the car he was driving was suspected of supplying drugs.

“It was reported that the bakkie of the suspects was equipped with blue lights on the grill and what looked like a police radio inside. The provincial secretary of the economic freedom fighters, Bosanku Msimanga, has called on the community of Bloemfontein to compete against crime.

“It shows that criminal syndicates decided to turn this place into their permanent place of residence. So we have to improve our game both community and the police, ensure that we are vigilant and help each other while we discuss this type of incident and ensure that Bloemfontein becomes a safer place to stay.”
