The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) has closed part of the N2 due to snowfall around Kokstad and Port Shepstone.
Kwazulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said: “To save lives, we have decided to close the road completely between Kokstad and Pietemaritzburg and between Tacoma for Reit.
“We urge motorists and the public to avoid the area at all costs by postponing their journeys leading to Kokstad, while trucks are stuck and create enormous congestion.
“The RTI team collaborates with the traffic police of the municipalities of Kokstad and Ray Nkonyeni to kill motorists and free up the snow.”
RTI officials monitor important routes in consultation with the N3 Tol concession. The focus is on the N2 Kokstad and Port Shepstone, N3 between Harrismith, the Tugela Toll, the regional road between Kokstad and Underberg, Ingeli and N3 Beautiful River.
Motor classes are prepared to remove snow before it accumulates to more than 30 cm in -depth on roads.
The province has received three warnings in the field of Orange Level 6 for disruptive snow, rain rains and storm winds in the southern parts.
Duma said the government had interaction with the SA -Weer service to stay up -To date and to ensure that the answer is effective.
