NPA to decide the next step after a legal blow in the corruption case

Johannesburg – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it still has to decide on his next step after a legal blow to the asbestos corruption issue on the Bloemfontein High Court on Tuesday.

This follows at the court that destroys the extradition of the former extradition of the former freedom of Ace Magashule from the US.

Moroadi Cholota was returned to South Africa in a dramatic extradition with which it would be added to a list of individuals accused by corruption in the R255 million asbestos test.

In her special plea before the court, Cholota accused the state of lying against the American authorities that there was a reasonable and likely reason for the accusations of corruption against her.

Her lawyers claimed that she was only charged after she would not involve her former boss, Ace Magashule, during a witness interview with the State researchers in 2021.

The High Court from Bloemfontein says that the NPA has bundled the extradition process, which means that the court cannot try it in this matter, so that Cholota does not run SCOT-free.

Toments after the judgment NPA spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said: “Because it is an opinion that it has the effect of a definitive order, we can appeal with it, but at the moment we have to regroup ourselves as a team and show the judgment and see if there are grounds, given the impact of it.”

He says that the judgment has no influence on the other accused, where the state is ready to continue with the main process.
