Free State Police has found Kamogelo Baukudi alive in Wennen on Friday morning after a coordinated rescue operation.
The 19-year-old was abducted on June 5, while he was driven home from the Martie du Plessis School in Bloemfontein. His disappearance caused widespread concern and led to the creation of a tactical team led by Mangaung Metro District Police Commissioner MaJ-Gen Arthur Adams.
“After weeks of intensive investigation, Kamogelo was safe this morning and saved in Wepener,” said police spokesperson Brig Brigadier Motantsi Makhele.
Five suspects between 20 and 29 were arrested.
“Three suspects were arrested on a house at the Kanana location in Wennener, while two others were caught on the road between Kwetla location and the city of Wepener with the victim in their possession.”
This brings the total number of arrests in the case to six. The first suspect, a 42-year-old police sergeant who was previously arrested, appeared in the court accused of kidnapping and extortion.
The suspects are confronted with charges with regard to kidnapping and extortion. They will become a member of the police sergeant in court on Monday. The research continues.
