IN PHOTOS: Ehlanzeni high schools shine in Mpumalanga rugby semi-finals

Curro Nelspruit’s 1st team will face Hoërskool Standerton’s 1sts in the final of the Mpumalanga Schools’ Championship Division 3. Curro hosted one of the two medium schools semi-final legs on Saturday, June 21 and faced Barberton High School for a place in the final.

At half-time, the match was evenly poised and could have gone either way, but Curro ignited the afterburners in the second half to win 40-14.

The other leg of the semis was played at Hoërskool Standerton, also on June 21, where the host school’s 1st team beat Hoërskool Bergvlam 32-25.

Bergvlam’s 2nd team defeated Curro 2nds 31-5 at Curro on Saturday. They will face Standerton’s 2nd team after the Highveld school beat Lowveld High 17-15 on their home turf on Saturday.

The U16 final will be contested between Bergvlam and Standerton. The Vlammies scored a 34-12 win over Generaal Hertzog at Curro Nelspruit, while Standerton gave Hoërskool Oosterland a 66-0 hiding at home.

The U15 semis saw Standerton defeating Lowveld High 15-3 at home, and Volksrust outscoring Bergvlam 27-24 at Curro.

Bergvlam’s U14 team won 17-10 against their counterparts from Generaal Hertzog and will play Barberton High in the final. Barberton and Standerton drew 26-26, but the Lowveld team went through to the final because they scored the first try of the match.

The finals will be hosted by Curro Nelspruit in the third school term.
