The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that bitterkoue weer is oppad Kaap toe

Overnight on Wednesday, a cold front moved in quickly and forecasters say it will be followed by nog ene tonight.

This will intensify the woeste weer in the coastal regions and drop the temperature in the Western Cape through to Saturday, with rain expected to fall over the weekend.

As the cold front descends, the SAWS said that daytime temperatures could plunge to 10 degrees or below in various interior areas of the Western Cape.

From Wednesday through Saturday, residents are urged to brace themselves for extremely cold weather.

The weather service has urged the public to monitor further updates and exercise caution, especially near coastal areas.

The forecaster further advised that damaging waves are likely along the coastline, with a Level 2 warning in effect until Thursday night.

Wave heights are expected to reach between 4.0 to 5.0 metres, rising to 5.5 metres on Wednesday.

Rainfall probabilities for the region remain modest at around 30 percent along the southern coast, particularly near George and Cape Agulhas.

Despite the limited precipitation, strong gusts and sea conditions are expected to be the dominant concern.
