50 dead following extreme weather conditions in Eastern Cape

GQEBERHA – The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane, says this week’s weather has been the worst disaster he has experienced.

50people have died in the OR Tambo District in the province.

Many are still missing, and rescue workers are searching for bodies.

Some of those who died were pupils using scholar transport to get to school.

The minibus taxi they were driving in was swept away.

58 schools teaching more than 6,000 pupils have been affected.

Hundreds of thousands of homes were without power.
