The Mpumalanga School of Excellence FC emerged victorious against Junior Spurs FC in the Mbombela Stream of the Safa Ehlanzeni U20 Development League. Week 10’s league games took place at the KaNyamazane Stadium on March 29.
The MP School of Excellence boys took the lead in the 36th minute with a well-finished goal by Kabelo Khumalo. Junior Spurs refused to back down and Vuyani Khoza brought them back in the game just two minutes into the second half. In the 72nd minute, Junior Spurs’ Divine Thabethe received a red card for handling the ball. He denied Mpumalanga School of Excellence a clear scoring opportunity.

With Junior Spurs reduced to 10 players, the MP School of Excellence took the advantage to snatch a victory. In the 80th minute, Njabulo Gama hit the net to lead 2-1. Innocent Machel extended the lead in extra time.

The referee blew his whistle to end the match with the MP School of Excellence winning 3-1.
Junior Spurs’ coach, Ephraim Mhlanga, said: “The game was good but the red card made things worse for us. I was hoping for a draw, but our opponents were fast. Our boys need to train more and make use of their chances in the box.”
The MP School of Excellence’s coach, Nhlanhla Mnisi, said that “It was not easy to create chances in the first half, but we managed to regroup in the second half to win. We created many chances after the red card and it really helped us,” Mnisi said.
