A fifth body was found in the Hennops River in Centurion, Pretoria. The police search and rescue team was looking for the three police officers who were missing last Wednesday, when they broke two kilometers apart.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya says they are trying to determine what could have happened in the river.
“This is the result of a search from the divers because they have come with the dogs, the river follow from that side of Hennops, from the N1 to where we are now. It is almost between 8 and 10 kilometers. So we are still processing the scene,” says Sibiya.
In the meantime, the police are still looking for the vehicle in which three missing officers traveled after a total of a total Five bodies were picked up From the river.
It is not clear at this stage as three of the bodies that of the missing police agents who were on the road from Bloemfontein to Polokwane, or if they are all part of the same incident.
The families of the three agents have arrived in Pretoria to help identify the bodies.
The officers were missing last Wednesday, while they were on their way to their placement in Polokwane, where they would be part of Operation Vala Umgodi.
Lt-gene Sibiya says: “Of course we don’t want to say much, while the families are not yet here. Otherwise they will learn a few things from the media, which will actually be bad. It can be something. Remember, it was in the early hours of the morning and at the moment we cannot really determine until the investigation was concluded.”
