Early gold for free state in Bloemfontein

Although there was rain in Bloemfontein on Thursday, with possibly more expected on Friday, the action on the circuit and field was certainly red -hot.

Free State claimed an early gold medal on the opening morning of this prestigious event, in which the local favorite Judy Watson won a national title.

The 17-year-old Watson, who goes to Hoërskool Fichardtpark, impressed by winning gold in the U19 discus of the girls. Watson, who has a season of 51.65 m, performed better than Chris-Mari Nel of the Western Cape to take the title. Her pitch of 49.42 m was almost half a meter further than her closest competitor.

Nel insured silver with an effort of 48.94 m, while Jamore Olivier van Gauteng ended the stage with a pitch of 44.75 m to claim bronze.

This achievement was even more remarkable given that the young athlete, who will also compete in the shot put, recovered from an injury last month.

“It is certainly a proud moment for me, and I am even more excited for what awaits us.”

In a fantastic result for the free state, Dian Bissschoff won the U15 -Hamer throw against the boys with a stunning distance of 57.04 million, while Marnu Geyser finished second with an effort of 48.12 m. Wian Bredenkamp completed an All -Free State Podium, with also Claiming Brons.

Bulela Mganu van Gauteng took gold in the U15 1500 m Steeplechase of the boys in 4: 32.01. Gauthvin Makatees of the Western Cape Secure silver in 4: 39.76, while Bongani Mpond van Gauteng finished third in 4: 40.67.

In the U19 3000 m Steeplechase of the boys, Simba Chamunorwa van Gauteng came out the victory in 9: 25.61, with the free state of Duo van Katleho Molato (9: 35.43) and Reetwe Chabalala (9: 39.43) who claim silver and brons respectively.

Liam-Lloyd Doman finished third in the U19 10,000 m walk of the boys with a time of 50: 31.77 in other great results for free state, while Rudolph Erasmus silver insured in the U15 pole vault of the boys.

Almost 1500 young people, who represent all nine provinces, will compete for national glory until Saturday.
