18 months in prison for the person who gave faeces about the health worker of De Vrije Staat

Tshediso mbele, the 38-year-old man patient who was convicted of abuse after he Poured a bucket of feces in a health worker in the Thabong Clinic last year, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Thursday.

Monyatso Mahlatsi, Free State Health MEC, expressed trust in the legal system and praised the health worker for her strength and determination to seek justice.

“We praise her for a steadfast company in the light of adversity and the pursuit of justice against her perpetrator. We are also happy that during the human rights month, including International Women’s Day, the courts confirmed the rights of health workers as fundamental human rights,” Mahlatsi said.

Mahlatsi said the department hoped that the punishment sent a clear message to society that violence and abuse would not be tolerated in health facilities.
