The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in North West has called on the provincial government to improve service delivery and reduce the high rate of unemployment.

SANCO recently marched to the provincial government offices in Mahikeng to hand over a memorandum of demands. The state of the roads in the province, poor sanitation services, corruption and maladministration were among their grievances.

Scores of members of SANCO from across the province converged on the capital, Mahikeng to submit their memorandum of demands.

SANCO provincial secretary, Mogomotsi Mosheshe, “Premier we know that service delivery is one of the key issues in this province. We ask you Premier as you have said when you were at National Assembly that it is your key responsibility to accelerate service delivery.

We demand that service delivery be taken care of, the deterioration of internal roads. Premier we are struggling our roads are not correct in this province and we know people are chowing money in Public Works, they are not fixing roads.

Premier we have a problem of sewer spillage which causes a health hazard in this province and we cannot ever again get affected.”

Meanwhile, North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has promised to respond to the demands.

“The first memorandum was meant for local government and in particular speaking about our different municipalities and making a lot of serious allegations of corruption, maladministration and so forth.

Also, there is a second memorandum which relates to a number of issues which are competencies of the provincial government. Within the specified period we will be coming together as the provincial government and the MEC responsible for local government and precisely responding to what has been raised.”
