MK party in Mpumalanga welcomes over 1 000 new members – SABC News – Breaking news, special reports, world, business, sport coverage of all South African current events. Africa’s news leader.

The Umkhonto WeSizwe (MK) party in Mpumalanga says it recently welcomed more than 1 000 new members. They were hosted at the Mgobodzi community hall in the Nkomazi municipality.

Addressing the new recruits, MKP Mpumalanga chairperson Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane urges them to serve the party wherever they are without fighting for positions.

The turnout of MKP members and supporters in Mgobodzi was significant, with many expressing a desire for change in their area. They were excited to see the MKP’s growing presence, and the party is focusing on attracting dissatisfied African National Congress (ANC) members from the province.

Adv. Mkhwebane shares her thoughts, highlighting the progress made under former President Zuma’s leadership. “People have seen the tangible progress made during his tenure,” she said. “Mpumalanga now has two universities, something that never existed before. There’s infrastructure development, and this state-of-the-art hall was built under his name. Now, we’re not just giving people food parcels that will run out in a week. We’re giving them lasting change—tangible things that make a difference.”

The residents of Nkomazi are hopeful that the party’s efforts, alongside its new recruits, will bring about much-needed change in their area.

“As residents of Mgobodzi, we saw a change when Mkhatshwa was mayor here. When he left, the services stopped. That’s why we’re here supporting him. We know that if he gets a position in the MK, he’ll take care of us,” one resident says.

“We’re here to welcome Comrade Johannes. We know he played a vital role in the ANC, and now that he’s joined the MKP, we’re glad to have him working with us. We believe he can correct the issues we faced in the ANC and help improve services for the people of Mpumalanga,” adds another.

“I’m here as a resident of Nkomazi to celebrate with MKP leaders and meet other members of the party. We usually communicate online, so it’s great to connect in person,” explains a third.

Johannes Mkhatshwa, the expelled ANC member and former mayor of Nkomazi Local Municipality, spoke about his decision to join the MKP, explaining that the party’s ideology resonates with him, especially its commitment to the total liberation of the people.

“The reason I joined MKP is because I align with its ideology, particularly the emphasis on land redistribution and creating job opportunities. Over the past 30 years, we’ve claimed to be in charge, but the economy hasn’t improved. MKP’s commitment to giving people back their land and empowering them is something close to my heart. I don’t like seeing people suffer, which is why I joined,” Mkhatshwa stresses.

Additionally, Adv. Mkhwebane addresses the recent controversy surrounding her tweet about a tenant instructing a landlord, clarifying that her statement was taken out of context. She explained that she was referring to the recent removal of Khoi/San people from the Union Buildings earlier that week.
