Limpopo police have opened an inquest docket following the killing of a suspect during a shootout at Ga-Komape village outside Polokwane.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the 36-year-old suspect started shooting at them when followed at his hideout.

The suspect was wanted for various crimes, including murder, carjacking, business robbery and more.

Ledwaba says the crimes were committed between 2022 and this year at Hlanganani outside Giyani.

“During the operation, on the arrival of the team at the identified address, team members acted swiftly, and the suspect came out from one room, firing gunshots towards the police, whereby they retaliated and the suspect aged 36 was fatally shot. Police have opened a case of inquest at Seshego Police Station for further investigations. The firearm and motor vehicle, which were being used by the suspect, were confiscated. The suspect is linked with the following cases around Hlanganani policing area, three cases of murder, four cases of attempted murder, carjacking, eight cases of business robbery, and malicious damage to property.”
