POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Fencing Association (LFA) celebrated another milestone at the 2024 Limpopo Sports Awards, held at Meropa Casino and World Entertainment on January 20. The association secured two major awards, reinforcing its growing impact in the province.

Coach Phetho Mashiane was named volunteer of the year in recognition of his dedication to developing fencing at the University of Limpopo. LFA Chairperson Renuka Ramroop commended his efforts, stating that the award reflects his unwavering commitment to growing the sport.

LFA also won the federation of the year award for the third time in four years, a testament to its strong management and ongoing success. Ramroop highlighted that the prize money from this award will support E Tla Natšo, LFA’s flagship development project that makes fencing accessible to rural youth.

She emphasised that this win is not just a recognition of past achievements but a step toward an even brighter future for fencing in Limpopo.

In addition to the association’s success, Rahul van Manen was a finalist for sportsman of the year, marking his fifth consecutive nomination as South Africa’s second-ranked fencer. Renuka Ramroop, a national medallist and international representative for South Africa, was a finalist for sportswoman of the year and ultimately took home the award.
