Eastern Cape communities are pinning their hopes on Premier Oscar Mabuyane to come up with tangible and practical solutions to socio-economic challenges plaguing the province.
Mabuyane will deliver his State Of the Province Address (SOPA) for the seventh administration tomorrow in Bhisho.
Poverty, crime and a high unemployment rate continue to hamper economic development in the province.
Political analyst Professor Ntsikelelo Breakfast says government needs to strengthen relations with the private sector to create much needed jobs for the province.
“Another problem for the Eastern Cape which feeds to under development is the fact that the economy is not diversified, for instance in cities like Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City, the majority of people are employed in the automotive sector so there is a need for diversification of the economy,” says Breakfast.
