Crime-hit Chuene Clinic outside Polokwane reopens

The clinic had been closed for the past three weeks. 

It shut its doors after two nurses were abducted, raped and robbed by an armed man in January. 

The 28-year-old Moloto Johannes Sathekge allegedly entered the clinic and overpowered three security personnel before abducting the two on-duty nurses.  

He has since been arrested and appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court, where he is facing multiple charges. 

MEC Mashego said the temporary closure was necessary to provide support to affected staff members. 

“In addition to supporting the staff, infrastructural improvements have been made to enhance security at the clinic, ensuring the safety of both employees and patients moving forward,” she said. 

“We will continue to render the services, but we will be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

“And we are urging all community members to say, if you need medical attention after 4 o’clock, then feel free to call our ambulances; our emergency medical services are always ready to come and take the patients to the hospital.”
