The Western Cape Education Department has strongly condemned the murder of a school principal in Kraaifontein.
The 54-year-old man was shot in his car outside the Ekuphumleni Primary School in Bloekombos on Thursday.
Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says counselling services have been given to affected parties.
“This is a terrible tragedy for the school and community and we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and school community. Our district teams are on the ground providing counselling support and we trust that SAPS will leave no stones unturned in apprehending the perpetrator.”
Police are searching for the perpetrators of the crime. Citizens with any information have been advised to contact Detective Colonel Eddie Clark on 082 469 1531 or 08600 10111.

Meanwhile, the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) in the Western Cape has called for police visibility in schools to ensure the safety of teachers and learners.
“We call upon the police as well as the Department of Safety and Security within the province to ensure that there is police visibility early in the morning around schools because we understand that the visibility of the police is a deterrent to crime,” said Sadtu’s Provincial Secretary Sibongile Kwazi.
