Metro FM will host its award ceremony in Mbombela again — and it might be the last time.
The station officially announced the launch of the Metro FM Music Awards 2025 (MMAs) in Mpumalanga. The provincial government and the Motsepe Foundation have once again partnered Metro FM to deliver yet another exhilarating edition of the renowned awards ceremony.
The launch brought together partners, key stakeholders, clients and advertisers to celebrate the start of the station’s awards season.
The awards will take place on Saturday May 3, at Mbombela Stadium. Leading up to the awards, the nominees’ announcement event will take place on Thursday February 27 where all the nominees in the respective categories will be revealed.
The MMAs are a prestigious event that recognise and celebrate the best in South African music.
Leah Mabuza, the MEC for the department of culture, sport and recreation in Mpumalanga, said, “We wish to heartily thank Metro FM for providing us with an opportunity to showcase our province as a competitive destination of choice, but also a gateway to the Sadc economies. This year might be the last time we host the award ceremony, but of course we’ve got the room to engage further our current relationship.”
Nada Wotshela, SABC group executive for radio, said, “The Metro FM Music Awards have a significant affect on the South African music industry and the country at large. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we are excited to build on that momentum this year.
“The awards provide a platform for artists to showcase their talent and for music lovers to celebrate the best in South African music.”
