Limpopo girls’ soccer team shines at Special Olympics tourney | Herald

LIMPOPO – The girls’ soccer team from Nthabiseng Special School in Namakgale recently had the honour of representing Limpopo at the Special Olympics National Unified Football Tournament held in Johannesburg.

The team, which included nine players, five from Nthabiseng Special School and four from Relebogile High School, progressed through various levels of competition to secure their place on the national stage.

Despite their determination and effort, the team was unable to achieve victory in the tournament.

Nthabiseng Special School caters to intellectually impaired learners, and the players, aged between 16 and 25 years, displayed commendable teamwork and spirit throughout the competition.

The local team was managed by Rebecca Mashabela and coached by Masana Bila, both of whom expressed optimism about the future.

Mashabela shared with the Herald that the school is already preparing for upcoming competitions and is confident that the experience gained will help them perform better this year.

Meanwhile, Limpopo was also represented by a boys’ soccer team from Vhembe, who emerged victorious in the tournament. Their win has secured them a spot to represent South Africa internationally in October.
