50 Principals from Mpumalanga, Honoured for Leadership Training

There are 50 more exceptional leaders in education thanks to the Leadership Development Programme hosted by Old Mutual and Performance Solutions Africa; they were recently honoured.

Mpumalanga, South Africa (21 January 2025) – At the end of November 2024, 50 school principals from around Mpumalanga were honoured with certificates after completing a Leadership Development Programme geared at empowering them with the skills needed to impact their schools and communities positively.

A collaboration between Old Mutual, through the Old Mutual Foundation and Performance Solutions Africa (PSA) aimed to invest in the local education system by providing effective leadership tools to the leaders of 50 schools. All of the principals reached their goals in completing the leadership programme and are now primed to implement their new skills for the 2025 school year and many more years to come. They are now equipped to strengthen leadership capabilities and promote improved school governance.

The principals were honoured during two ceremonies last year at the Elangeni Guest Lodge in Ehlanzeni and the Nkangala Conference Centre, Nkangala.

The programme, run by PSA, addressed critical instructional leadership practices that directly impact teaching quality and learner outcomes. This comprehensive training programme was instrumental in building school leaders’ capacity to implement effective leadership strategies, improve school governance, and inspire a culture of excellence among their staff and students.

Each of the 50 leaders was provided with:

  • Leadership training
  • Personalised and group coaching
  • Tools for improving school governance and teaching quality

They shone throughout the programme, eager to adopt the training into their schools and dedicated to making a difference, not only for their teachers and students but for the greater community, too.

“The dedication shown by these principals was a testament to their commitment to advancing education in their communities,” said Mr Khotso Tsotsotso, Acting Head of the Old Mutual Foundation. “Their success will not only transform their schools but uplift entire communities, ensuring learners are empowered to achieve their full potential.”

With investment into education in South Africa, there is a chance for real change. Empowering school leaders has a great impact on the entire system. Old Mutual and PSA remain committed to supporting South African education by investing in the development of school leaders.

These ceremonies are instrumental in recognising the hard work and dedication of these school leaders. It goes a long way in inspiring further positive changes within Mpumalanga’s education system.

By equipping principals with the necessary leadership tools, Old Mutual and PSA paved the way for a brighter future for learners and ensured that schools became centres of excellence in their communities.
