Beer brewer South African Breweries (SAB) on December 4 showcased the Imifino project at its Ibhayi brewery site in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, as a viable model for effluent treatment in the food and beverage sector, while providing irrigation for agricultural purposes.
The Imifino project integrates agricultural production with effluent treatment, with nutrients being converted into valuable biomass, effectively creating a profitable and sustainable local value chain from brewery wastewater.
